As one of the top three carriers in the United States, American Airlines operates both domestic and international flight routes, connecting the country to various destinations all across the globe. Since its inauguration in 1930 as American Airways, the airline has incorporated several other carriers under its wings, including Trans World Airlines and Reno Air; and rebranded itself as American Airlines. The airline is also known to hold a significant influence in the establishment of LaGuardia Airport, which is home to American Airline’s Admirals Club, one of the world’s pioneer lounge services provided by a carrier. Other bases of the airline are JFK Airport in New York, and Dallas/Fort Worth International Airport where its headquarters now lies. It is also a member of the Oneworld Alliance, and honours partnerships with other prominent names like Qatar Airways and British Airways.
How to Check In
American Airlines offers several modes of check-in choices catering to the passenger’s comfort and convenience. As early as 24 hours before departure, passengers can go online and settle their check-in procedures, efficiently avoiding snaking queues at the regular check-in counters at their designated airports. If you are on the go, American Airlines had also made the option of mobile check-in possible. Passengers can also choose conventional modes of checking themselves in at the airport itself, but with self-service kiosks which will issue you your boarding passes on the spot, and you may drop your baggage off at the airline counters.
Baggage Allowance and Fees
Depending on your destination and class of travel, baggage allowances differ. The general agreement is one complimentary piece of baggage for checking-in, although some destinations may allow up to two. Charges may apply to extra or oversized baggage, or for flight tickets bought after a certain date. Passengers are each allowed one carry-on baggage on top of one personal item such as a purse or a laptop bag which must be placed under the passenger seat. Do note that American Airlines adheres to a list of restricted items including liquids and gels which will not be allowed on board the aircraft at any point of time.
To ensure that passengers enjoy a comfortable and pleasant experience in the skies, American Airlines offers its customers the luxury of selecting exclusive seats which entails more room around their seat. The Main Cabin Extra does exactly this, allowing passengers a good stretch en route to their destination with increased legroom. Other options include the Preferred Seats and Choice Seats which may also be reserved upon your booking.
Booking fees do apply with regular reservations but may be waived for selected AAdvantage members, the American Airlines’ frequent flyer programme.
On board American Airlines, passengers will find themselves highly entertained given the myriad of inflight services and amenities available. Remain connected with your loved ones, or read your emails while flying with the inflight WiFi access offered by most aircraft. Brought a dying laptop along? Not to worry as most aircraft are equipped with power outlets as well as USB ports bound to save your depleting batteries. Also, entertainment options are abundant through the personal screens installed in front of each seat. Be kept occupied with the endless selection of movies, television programmes, music albums, radio channels and even games.
