Bangkok Airways – Asia’a Botique Airline

Bangkok Airline, a region airline of Thailand provides services to destinations in Thailand, Cambodia, China, Hong Kong, Laos, Maldives, Burma, India and Singapore. The headquarter of the airport is at Vibhavadi Rangsit Road, Chatuchak District, Bangkok, Thailand and Suvarnabhumi Airport is the major hub for the airline. The airline has received a consistent rating of four-star by the airline ranking company Skytrax. The airline is official sponsor of Bangkok Glass FC, Chiang Mai FC, Trat FC,[3] Lampang FC, Sukhothai FC and Bangkok Christian College FC. The airline runs a frequent flyer programme called FlyerBonus.

History

Founded in the year 1968, Bangkok Airways the known as Sahakol Air and used to operate taxi service under the United States Operations Mission. The first schedule service, after becoming Thailand’s first privately owned domestic airline, operated in 1986. The airline was rebranded as Bangkok Airways in 1989. The airline built its own airport at Koh Sumai in April 1989, 2nd airport at Sukhothai Province in 1996 and a 3rd at Trat Province in 2003.

Fleet

As of November 2014, Bangkok Airways had a fleet of 27 aircraft with an average age of 8.5 years. While most of the aircrafts are owned by the airline, some of them are leased. The airline has an all fleets with a mix of single-aisle and some are single class configuration (All Economy Class). Bangkok Airways operates a mix of Airbus A330, Airbus A340 and Boeing 787 aircraft and order for 13 more aircrafts has been placed by the airline. The current fleet comprises of 8 ATR 72-500s, 10 Airbus 319s, 8 Airbus 320s and 1 ATR72-600, each aircraft decorated in different liveries of various exotic destinations.

The airline currently operates to 23 destinations in Thailand, Cambodia, China, Hong Kong, Laos, Maldives, Burma, India and Singapore. Bangkok Airways has a codeshare agreement with 17 airlines.

How to Check In

Recognised by its hues of blue from its fleet livery to its cabin crew uniform, you will be greeted in a friendly Thai accent when you check in at the airport, two hours before flying. Otherwise, an alternative method of checking in includes web check-in and the new mobile check-in, which truly saves time as you will not even need to print out your boarding pass. After checking in, those eligible may wish to relax at the various lounges under Bangkok Airways such as the Blue Ribbon Club Lounge and the Boutique Lounge. The lounges provide free internet, refreshments and entertainment.

Baggage Allowance and fees

Free baggage allowance starts from 20kg depending on your class of travel, and infants also have a free baggage allowance of 10kg. If you have more than one check-in luggage, each must weigh less than 32kg, otherwise you will be asked to repack your luggage which will be troublesome. There is a hand baggage allowance of 5kg and the allowable dimensions differ on the aircraft model. As Bangkok Airways has codeshare agreements with other airlines, it is best to check on their website regarding the baggage allowance if you are flying with another airline.

Seating

On the Bangkok Airways Economy class seats, which are configured in a 3 by 3 setting, passengers get to enjoy a seat width of 31 inches and hot meals served on board. If you wish to have more space, feel free to opt for Bangkok Airways’ Premier Class seats, which are Economy Class seats with the middle seats left empty, as well as a separate meal menu, priority check-in services and up to 40 points to be accrued on the Flyer Bonus Programme.

Booking Fees
