KLM (Royal Dutch Airline) - "Journeys of Inspiration"

Koninklijke Luchtvaart Maatschappij N.V, which is better known as KLM is a flag carrier of Netherlands. Headquartered in Amstelveen near its hub at Amsterdam Airport Schiphol, the airline operate passenger as well as cargo services to more than 13 destinations across the globe. The airline is the oldest airline in the world to be operating under its original name and is a part of Sky Team Alliance. The airline merged with Air France in May 2004 but both the airline continues to operate under their distinct brand name. In the year 2013, the airline provided employment to 32,505 people.

History

Founded on 7th October 1919, the first KLM flight took off on 17 May 1920. KLM's first intercontinental flight was initiated on the 1st of October 1924 and until the breakout of the 2nd world war KLM was the world's longest-distance scheduled service by airplane. The merger of Air France and KLM in 2013 resulted in the world's largest airline group with an annual cost saving of between 400 and 500 million Euros.

Fleets

The fleet of KLM includes mix of Airbus as well as Boeing aircrafts with an average age of 9 years. Total number of fleet is 115 and presently KLM is in the midst of a major fleet renewal programme. The airline has completely phase out its MD-11 fleets and renewal of wide-body fleet is underway. The new Boeing 787-9 and Airbus A350-900 have been ordered by the Air France-KLM group. The first aircraft are expected to enter service with KLM in 2015.

The airline has been awarded with numerous accolades for its achievements in the aviation sector.

·         KLM received the award for "Best Airline Staff Service" in Europe at the World Airline Awards 2013

·         KLM was rated as the best airlines in Europe for on-board food in Skyscanner’s annual European Airline Food Awards, 2013

·         KLM Royal Dutch Airlines has been awarded the status of 4 Star Airline for its excellent products and services in the air and on the ground in 2013

Routes and Destinations

At present, KLM and its partners serve 133 destinations in 69 countries on five continents and the airline has a codeshare agreement with 27 airlines along with most of SkyTeam members.
