Delhi Airport (IATA: DEL, ICAO: VIDP) is popularly known as Indira Gandhi International Airport (named after the former Prime Minister of India, Indira Gandhi, ) and is located in West Delhi, 16 km southwest of New Delhi city centre. Delhi Airport is the busiest airport in India in terms of daily flight traffic. With the commencement of operations at the new Terminal 3, Delhi Airport has become India's and South Asia's largest airport, with a current capacity of handling more than 46 million passengers.

In 2010-11, Delhi airport handled 29.94 million passengers. Delhi Airport's Terminal 3 is the world's 8^th largest passenger terminal. Indira Gandhi International Airport (IGIA) was conferred the fourth best airport award in the world (in the 15–25 million categories) and Best Improved Airport in the Asia-Pacific Region by Airport Council International.

Getting to & from the Airport

Trains hide

Airport express is in service to connect the Delhi airport with the central part of New Delhi. The airport express is currently operating from 05:00 AM till 11:00 PM with a frequency of 20 minutes. The airport express connects Dwarka Sector 21 and New Delhi Railway Station via Delhi Airport Terminal 3, Shivaji Stadium or Connaught Place & New Delhi Railway Station. Each of these stations have enough parking space to park your vehicles. During peak hours, it is wise to travel in Airport express to avoid any delays due to high traffic.

Buses hide

Delhi Transport Corporation runs air-conditioned shuttle service at a regular interval (every 30 minutes) connecting the Delhi airport to the central parts of Delhi including Connaught Place & Interstate Bus Terminal. All buses coming towards Terminal 3 will arrive and depart from a ‘staging area’ located opposite Centaur Hotel. From there to the Airport Terminal DIAL will provide a 24x7 shuttle bus, every 15 minutes.

Regular bus services are available from inter-state bus terminals (Kashmiri Gate ISBT in Northern Delhi, Anand Vihar ISBT in Trans-Yamuna area, Sarai Kale Khan ISBT in South-East Delhi) in the city.
