Cheap flights from the UK

Though often referred to simply as ‘the UK’ or Britain, this country located around northwestern Europe is actually known as the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland in full. And even within the term ‘Great Britain’, there are more specifications; Great Britain actually refers to the countries England and Scotland, as well as the principality of Wales, altogether. As such, the official countries of the United Kingdom are England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland. The capital city of the UK as a whole is London, though the countries within have their own capital cities too – Scotland’s capital city is Edinburgh, Belfast is Northern Ireland’s, and Cardiff is Wales’.

A city in the UK definitely worth visiting is Bath. With its 2,000-year-old Roman baths and many Georgian terraces, the whole city is a UNESCO World Heritage site and the backdrop for many of author Jane Austen’s novels. Boasting historic sites such as Bath Abbey – located on a site that has been used for Christian worship for more than 1,000 years – as well as a Grand Pump Room where one can drink waters from an ancient spring that was once used to fill Roman baths, the immersive experience of Bath will take you back in time.

Otherwise, another popular destination is Belfast, capital of Northern Ireland (but still a part of the UK). The birthplace of world-famous cruise ship, the Titanic, the city is home to the Titanic Belfast, the world’s largest Titanic visitor experience. Go to the actual historic site of the doomed ship’s construction and learn about her behind-the-scenes story, revel in the pride of her makers, and find out intimate details about her maiden voyage and eventual tragic end. Besides that, Belfast also features Cave Hill, Stormont Castle and more, for an all-rounded holiday experience.

If that doesn’t sound good to you still, visit Glasgow – the largest city in Scotland – instead. Named European Capital of Culture in 1995, Glasgow offers some amazing natural beauty in the form of rolling hills and clear blue lochs, and boasts a happening music and art scene.

If you’d like to leave the UK, you can grab a direct flight from London to Zürich, the largest city in Switzerland and the capital of the canton of Zürich. Known for its clean and orderly exterior, it has an internationally reputed financial centre as well as one of the largest stock exchanges in the world. Zürich is also blessed with natural scenic beauty due to its geographic location. Sitting next to some woody hills and a clear, blue lake which feeds a clear, blue river, expect some gorgeous scenery as well as pensive moments gazing at the water, reflecting on life.

More adventurous souls can take a long-haul flight from London all the way to Cape Town International Airport in South Africa. The largest city in the Western Cape Province, Cape Town is renowned for its beautiful natural scenery as well as diverse wildlife, both on land and in the seas surrounding it. Take a relaxing scenic cable car ride up to the city’s iconic landmark Table Mountain, where you’ll be treated to amazing views of the majestic Atlantic Ocean and Cape Town city centre. For wildlife lovers, whale-watching boat tours and shark-cage diving are some of the most popular aquatic activities offered in Cape Town. With several oceanic migratory pathways bypassing Cape Town, you’ll be able to see the giants of the ocean in their natural habitat.

If not, how about a direct flight to Singapore, Asia’s little red dot that’s fast rising on the economic ladder? Treat yourself to sinful local gastronomic delights and visit local heritage sites such as the Chinatown Heritage Centre or the Malay Heritage Centre for a deeper understanding of how this little country with its multitude of different people came to be such an economic powerhouse today.
