Mango Airlines SOC Ltd, which is popularly known as Mango, is a state-owned South African low-cost airline and is a subsidiary of South African Airways. Operating domestic budget services, the main base of the airline is at OR Tambo International Airport, near Johannesburg. The airline is known to be South Africa’s most innovative airline and is the only African airline to offer on-board Wi-Fi. Mango is the first carrier to offer retail flights through grocer Shoprite Checkers, the first to offer booking and payment facilities via their mobile app and remains the only airline in the world to accept store charge cards (Edgars/Jet) as payment online and through their call centre.


Launched on October 30th, 2006, the first flight took off on 15th November 2006. Featuring a uniform fleet of aircraft with high seating density, Mango is a popular low cost domestic airline. The Cape Town International airport is the major focus city of the airline. Offering a wide range of booking and payment options, Mango is South America’s most on-time domestic airline for the past 6 years.


Mango Airline operates a fleet of new generation Boeing 737-800 aircraft with a seating capacity of 186 and is under the maintenance of South African Airways Technical. There are8 Boeing 737-800 and 1 Boeing 737-300 Airbus with capacity of 186 and 142 passengers, respectively. In November 2014, the average age of the aircraft was declared to be of 13.6 years.

Mango Airline currently operates domestic flights to and from the major cities in South Africa. Some of the major sectors are - Johannesburg (OR Tambo International) and Cape Town, Lanseria (Johannesburg) and Cape Town, Johannesburg and Durban, Cape Town and Durban, Bloemfontein and Cape Town, Johannesburg and Port Elizabeth, Cape Town and Port Elizabeth, Johannesburg and George. The airline also operates twice-weekly flights between Johannesburg and Zanzibar.
