Houari Boumediene Airport, also known as Algiers Airport or Algiers International Airport is the primary international airport serving Algiers in Algeria. Located at a distance of 17 km from the city centers, it is a public airport operated by EGSA Alger. The airport is hub for Aigle Azur, Air Algérie and Tassili Airlines and is at an elevation of 25meters above sea level. 2 asphalt runways, both measuring 3,500 each, are located at the airport. Named after the former president, Houari Boumediene, the Airport of Algiers or Société de Gestion des Services et Infrastructures Aéroportuaires has been managing the airport since 1st November 2006. The airport also has a bitumen helipad which measures 72×26 meters. The airport presently has a single terminal that has the capacity to manage 6 million passengers in a year. In 2014, the airport managed 5,919,685 passenger and 72,676 aircraft movements, making it one of the busiest airports in the country.
Earlier known as Maison Blanche Airport, owing to its location in Maison Blanche, the airport has been operational since 1924. It was seized by a combination of United States Army units, British Commandos and British Infantry Division on 8 November 1942 and served as a base for United States Army Air Forces Air Transport Command as a major transport cargo hub. After the war, the airport was handed over to the Government. The airport has been renovated and upgraded to make it one of the best airports in the country. The Airport got a new terminal on 5th July 2006 along with an extended parking space, a larger boarding area and a taxi stand.

Air Algérie Cargo, Air Express Algeria, Air France Cargo, DHL Aviation, FedEx Express, Royal Air Maroc Cargo, Royal Jordanian Cargo, Swiftair and Turkish Airlines Cargo presently operate cargo flights from the or Algiers International Airport

How to Check-in
Option of online check-in is offered by most of the airlines operating from the Algiers International Airport. This facility can be availed 24 hours prior to departure and allows the passengers to print their boarding passes online. As of now curbside check-in or self–check-in options are not available at the airport. Passenger travelling to the airport for counter check-in should do minimum of 2 hours before international flight departure and 1 hour before the departure of domestic flight. Multiple check-in desks are available at the airport terminal to assist the passengers.
The limit of baggage allowance may differ from one airline to the other; hence it is highly recommended that you connect with your airlines to know exact what o carry and what not to carry in order to avoid last minute confusion at the airport. As a general standard, followed by most of the airlines across the world passengers are not allowed to check-in a bag more than 23 kg in economy class 2 bags of 23 kg each in business class and so on. As hand baggage the limit may range between 8 kg to 15 kg, and this too depend on the class of travel and the destination you are travelling to.
