Bodrum Airportis an international airport found in Turkey. The airport serves the towns of Milas and Bodrum. The airport is located 16 kilometers south of Milas and 36 kilometers northeast of Bodrum. It has a new and spacious terminal. The terminal completion was in the year 2000.

The new terminal serves only international flights. The old terminal serves domestic flights. It is one kilometer away across the grass field. It will take you 15-minutes to walk from one terminal to another. Both terminals serve about 2.5 million passengers per year. The airport is usually busy during the summer. This is because it is the peak period of tourism. During summer, charter flights are common at the airport. 

The IEA Group in conjunction with Alarko were brains behind the original planning of the airport. The airport has a single runway that measures 3000 meters long and 45 meters wide. It is made of concrete.

The airport has a bank that will enable you exchange any currency. You should not worry when you want to exchange your currency to local. An Automated Teller Machine is available. The machine is compatible to variety of master cards.

The airport has an ample parking space. Since the airport is not always busy all year round, parking space is available. The problem with parking is during summer when the airport is flooded with tourists.

Restaurants and shops are available at the airport. There are also cafeterias that offer light meals. The restaurants at the airport have specialized in European dishes and the Turkey cuisine. This is so because majority of the airport visitors are from European countries.

The airport has disability facilities. These facilities range from telephones, wheelchair, lavatories, lifts, and many others

The airport puts security first. You can be sure of safety when you are at the airport. The police unit checks everyone entering and leaving the airport. This has improved safety and eliminated drug trafficking.

History

In the 1990s, the construction of Bodrum was still an idea. The construction was still in the planning process. The discussions concluded that the area between Milas and Bodrum was the ideal site for the airport. The area is close to Gulluk, Korukoy, Akyol, and Dorttepe.

The construction of the airport began in the year 1997. The completion of the spacious international terminal was in 1998. That same year, it opened its doors to air traffic. By 2010, the total arrivals were about 2.6 million. It receives more visitors during July to August. During this period, more than 1.5 million passengers can arrive at the airport. The government transferred the management of the airport to a private company.

The airport is home to a host of different types of planes. Top on the list are cargo planes. These airlines help in transporting heavy cargos. These airlines are the Turkish Airlines Cargo, Qatar Airways Cargo, Cargolux, Royal Jordanian Cargo, and Saudia Cargo. Destination of the cargo planes are usually in the continents of Europe and Asia. The airport receives many charter flights. Most users of charter flights are the tourists.

In 2010, the airport received Green Company title by General Directorate of Civil Aviation of Turkey.
