Located approximately 4km from the heart of the city, Kempegowda International Airport operates domestic and international flights to major cities around the globe. Indian passengers can travel from one end of India to another conveniently via domestic flights such as Air India and Jet Airways. The international airport is located about 40km away from the Bengaluru national bus stand. For passengers wanting to take the train to their destination, the airport lies approximately 30km away.
Terminal 1, also known as the Passenger Terminal, has four levels of modern amenities to enhance the travelling experience of its passengers. Terminal 2, mainly known as the Hajj terminal, was constructed especially for Haj pilgrims. The terminal is equipped with prayer rooms for both genders.
Services and Facilities
Lounge. There are different lounges catering to the needs of a varied group of travellers. For those wanting comfort and luxury, head to the VIP Lounge on level 1 of the terminal. Alternatively, there is the Plaza Premium Lounge where you would be able to enjoy interactive live food counters with high speed WiFi and a spa for guests to relax and unwind. If you’re not willing to splurge, head to the domestic lounge at Terminal 1 to enjoy refreshments and massage facilities.
WiFi/Internet Services. There is free WiFi available at the airport.
Business & Conference. Passengers have the choice of heading to a wide array of executive lounges, all equipped with high speed WiFi and shower facilities at the departure area. A business centre is due to be opened as part of the expansion of the main terminal building.
Shopping. There are several handicraft shops selling locally produced craft. There are even shops selling electronics, clothing and books. Guests can proceed to the duty-free outlets at the international departure area to purchase cheap liquor and tobacco.
General Services. There are ATMs and bank services available across all the domestic and international terminals. Public telephones and postal services are also widely available. A porter service is also available to help carry heavy bags to the taxi stand or carpark. For mothers travelling with kids, there are baby care rooms on each floor of the terminal. The airport is fully accessible with lifts and disabled toilets. There are even escorts to assist the disabled around the airport. There are designated smoking points for smokers to get their nicotine fix.
Eating Facilities. There are restaurants available in the arrival and departure terminals serving Indian, Continental, vegetarian and non-vegetarian fare. If you’re feeling thirsty, there are several juice counters, snack bars and even tea and coffee bars to relax in. The Kingfisher Lounge, Oberoi Lounge and the Leela Lounge have a wide array of delectable food and beverage as well as interactive live food counters for those keen on made-to-order dishes.
Transit Hotels. There are currently no hotels available on site at the airport. If you’re feeling exhausted and need a place to rest, head to Olde Bangalore or the Clarks Exotica which is a 15 minute taxi ride away.
