Mumbai Airport (Chhatrapati Shivaji International Airport)

Located 30km from central Mumbai, the Chhatrapati Shivaji International Airport is one of the busiest airports in Western India. This airport, along with the Indira Gandhi International Airportin Delhiis the main gateway into Indiaand is served by approximately 50 international airlines.


There are two terminals at the airport. Terminal 2 is due to be fully operational by the end of 2014. The airport terminals are located 4km away from each other. There are free inter-terminal air-conditioned coach services which transfer passengers between the terminals every 20 minutes throughout the day.

Services and Facilities

Lounge. There are executive lounges located at the departure areas of both terminals. Facilities includes Internet access, fax machines and shoe-polishing machines. Head to the different designated executive lounges provided by various airlines.

Wifi/Internet Services. There is free WIFI available throughout the airport terminals. There are even telecommunication centres offering telephones, fax, internet and photocopying services.

Business & Conference. If you’re looking for extensive conference and business facilities, head to the Lalit Hotel just a stone’s throw away from the airport.

Shopping. Interested in shopping at the airport? There are numerous shops where you can splurge on items ranging from designer clothes to jewellery to locally produced handicraft. Duty-free shopping is available in Terminal 2.

General Services. There are ATMs and bank services available across all the domestic and international terminals. Public telephones and postal services are also widely available. The medical centres in each terminal are operated by doctors throughout the day. Rest rooms and babycare rooms are available in all terminals. There are designated smoking areas in all three terminals where passengers can go to for their nicotine fix.

Eating Facilities. Feeling hungry? There are a variety of different restaurants, cafes and even snack bars where you can sit and chill by munching on local delicacies such as vadais and thosai to international cuisines.

Transit Hotels. There are a number of hotels where you can relax for the night near the airport. Head down to Hilton Mumbai International, just a five minute taxi ride from Terminal 2, to be treated like a king for a day. Rejuvenate in the outdoor pool and treat yourself to live seafood. For those on a budget, head down to the 2-star Midland Hotel Mumbai, a 10-minute drive from the airport.

 Getting to & from the Airport

Driving hide 

Head northwards on the National Highway 8 which passes through Terminal 1 at Santa Cruz. Head further north on the highway before turning eastwards onto Sahar Road to reach Terminal 2.

Trains hide 

Trains run to the nearby airport Mumbai CST Terminus and Churchgate for connections to Mumbai

Buses hide 

Take the BEST city bus service to Mumbai. To get to the nearby train stations, take buses 312 and 321 from Terminal 1 and 2 respectively. The local bus might be cheap but it can get crowded.

Taxi hide 

There are taxis, metered taxis and motor rickshaws available outside the airport. Taxis are the preferred choice of transport for visitors without pre-arranged hotel transportation. They are cheap and plentiful outside the terminals.
