Bern Airport – Your Gateway to Switzerland

Serving the capital of Switzerland – Bern, the Bern International Airport was earlier known as Regionalflugplatz Bern-Belp. Situated within the city limits, the Bern Airport is a public airport operated by ALPAR Flug- und Flugplatz- gesellschaft AG and currently is a hub for SkyWork Airlines and Helvetic Airways. At an elevation of 510 meters above sea level, the airport has 1 asphalt runway which measures 1,730 meters and a grass runway measuring 650 meters. A heli square and a glider area are also available at the Bern International Airport. Besides the many facilities and services at the airport, the airport is extremely popular for its Biderhanga built by Swiss aviation pioneer Oskar Bider and it is a heritage site of national significance as declared by the Swiss Inventory of Cultural Property of National and Regional Significance. The aircraft belonging to the air transport service of the Swiss Air Force are also stationed at Bern International Airport


The airport has been serving the country since the year 1929 and has been constantly renovated and expanded to suit the requirements of the passengers travelling to and from the Bern International Airport. At present, the airport has a single terminal that was expanded in 2011 to accommodate flights to the Non-Schengen area. The plan for further expansion of the airport is being considered and once it is completed, the airport will have new taxiways, more parking space along with a private aviation that will grace the southern side of the airport. This new plan is schedule to complete in 2020.


Currently only BMI Regional, SkyWork Airlines and SkyWork Airlines (operated by Darwin Airline) operate regular flight services from the airport. Helvetic Airways and InterSky schedule seasonal flights to and from the Bern International Airport.


Thought the airport is major international airport and serves as a major point of entry for tourists planning a trip to Switzerland, the Bern International Airport has still not received any awards or accolades till now.

How to Check-in

The passengers travelling from Bern International Airport have multiple options of check-in. Online check-in is available with a few airlines operating from the airport and this facility can be availed 24 hours prior to the departure of your flight. This is a free service and allows the passengers to print the boarding pass as soon as the online check-in is complete, thus saving them the waiting time at the airport. While options of curb side check-in or self-check-in is not available, numerous dedicated counters are available for check-in at the airport. As check-in time at the airport is dependent on the airline you are travelling with, it is suggested that you speak to your airline before leaving for airport. please note that counter closes strictly 45 minutes before departure of domestic flights and 1 hour in case of international flights. If you are late, then the airline has the right to deny boarding.
