Cayo Coco Airport – Welcome to the Land of Milk and Honey

Cayo Coco Airport, officially known as Jardines Del Rey Airport is a major airport in Ciego de Ávila Province of Cuba and currently serves Island of Cayo Coco. This is the only airport in Cuba that shares administration with Aena. ECASA and Aena are the operators of Jardines Del Rey Airport along with 47 airports in Spain, twelve airports in Mexico and three in Colombia. This is a public airport at an elevation of 4 meters above sea level and currently has a single asphalt runway which measures 3,000 meters in length. A major gateway to the tourist destination of Cayo Guillermo and Cayo Coco, the airport is 17 km from the city and is connected to the mainland by a causeway. Taking a taxi is only way to reach the airport as no bus currently ply between the airport and the city. Having a single terminal, the airport provides facilities like VIP lounges, bank office, shops, restaurants, a snack bar and a nursery.


This is one of the younger airports in the world and was built to replace the existing Cayo Coco Airport which was located at a distance of 10 km from the city. The airport was inaugurated on 26th December 2002, and at present 11 airline companies operates regular as well as seasonal passenger flights to and from the airport.


Aero Caribbean, Aerogaviota, Air Canada, Air Canada Rouge, Air Transat, Blue Panorama Airlines, Cubana de Aviación, EuroAtlantic Airways, Sunwing Airlines, Thomas Cook Airlines and WestJet operated passenger flights to and from the Jardines Del Rey Airport.


Jardines Del Rey Airport is a very small airport and offers basic facilities to its passengers. Though it is an important airport and serves as a gateway to Cuba and other tourist destinations, till now it has not received any awards whatsoever.

How to Check-in

Please check with your airline if they have the option of online check-in at Cayo Coco Airport, as this is a very small airport and does not offer high end services. At the Jardines Del Rey Airport, there are multiple check-in desks for the passenger’s assistance. Travellers are advised to report a minimum of 2 hours before departure of international flight and 1 hour is case of domestic flight. Please note that if you are using the facility of charter flights, then check-in timings may vary. If you fail to report within the check-in time then the airline hold the right to deny you boarding.

Baggage Allowance

Generally passengers flying from the Jardines Del Rey Airport are allowed to carry anywhere between 23 kg to 32 kg of hold luggage. As cabin luggage the limit is between 5 kg to 12 kg. This limit is just for reference purpose and may increase or decrease based on the class of travel and the destination you are travelling to. Please note that the airlines operating to and from Jardines Del Rey Airport may follow different regulation as far as baggage allowance in concerned and passengers are advised to speak tot eh airline directly to avoid any last minute confusion.
