Copenhagen Airport came into existence in the year 1925. It was one of the first civil airports in the world. It became a huge attraction to the residents of Copenhagen. This was because during that period, flying was at its infant stage and only the privileged few could afford to fly. By 1939, flying had become a great force, and was gaining a lot of momentum. This momentum enabled the construction of a new air terminal, which ended just before the Second World War broke out.

The Second World War stalled the airports’ development. After the end of the Second World War in 1945, the airport continued its development process. Since that time, the airport has grown very quickly. In 1932, there were only 6000 take offs, but by 2007 the take offs had increased to about 258,000. That is the real proof of massive development.

The airport was formally Kastrup Airport since it is located on a small town center of Kastrup. The formal name of the airport was Copenhagen Kastrup. Copenhagen airport adds Kastrup to differentiate it from the Roskilde Airport, which was formally Copenhagen Airport, Roskilde.
