Clark International Airport – Enter Philippines in Style

The Diosdado Macapagal International Airport, which is now known as Clark International Airport is a military and public airport located on the border of cities of Angeles and Mabalacat in the province of Pampangavin in Philippines. The airport is hub for Qatar Airways, Asiana Airlines, Cebu Pacific, and Tigerair Philippines along with Seair International, Cebgo and Cebu Pacific and is owned by Bases Conversion and Development Authority. Clark International Airport Corporation and Philippine Air Force are the operators of the Clark International Airport and at present there are 2 concrete runways measuring 3,200 meters each. It is at an elevation of 148 meters above sea level and is located at a distance of 80 km northwest of Manila. The Clark International Airport serves as a major entry point to Philippines. In the year 2013, the airport managed 1,200,592 passenger and 10,336 aircraft movements.

History

While this is a pretty ole airport, it was reopened only in 1993 as part of Clark Special Economic Zone. It was opened to accommodate the growing passenger traffic of Ninoy Aquino International Airport in Metro Manila. The airport was known as Diosdado Macapagal International Airport and the name was changed to Clark International Airport in 2003 by President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo. The first phase of the airport’s renovation was completed in 2008 and the passenger holding capacity was increased to 2 million passengers annually. Plans for making this airport one of the biggest and airports in the world is underway.

Fleet

AirAsia, Asiana Airlines, Cebgo, Cebu Pacific, Dragonair, Jin Air, Qatar airways and Tigerair are the airline companies that operated scheduled passenger flights to and from the ark International Airport. From the airport FedEx Express, Pacific East Asia Cargo Airlines, Tri-MG Intra Asia Airlines, UPS Airlines and Yangtze River Express are the major cargo airline operators. Currently the airport has 2 terminals and the 3rd one is being constructed and is schedule to start operations in 2015. Once the construction of the new terminal is complete it will equip the airport with 3 parallel runways, a high speed train, will have the capacity to manage the A380 and passenger holding capacity will increase to 80 million, thus making it one of the largest airports in the world.
