Dayton International Airport – Ohio’s Third Best

Officially known as James M. Cox Dayton International Airport, the Dayton International Airport serves Dayton in Ohio. A public airport owned by City of Dayton, the airport is operated by Dayton Department of Aviation and currently has 3 runways which measures 3,322 meters, 2m220 meters and 2,591 meters. A primary commercial service airport, it is around 10 miles from the city center and is an exclave of Dayton. This is the third largest airport in Ohio after Cleveland Hopkins International Airport and Port Columbus International Airport and is the venue of the annual Vectren Dayton Air Show. Dayton International Airport is among the 10 fastest growing airports in United States and serves as hub for PSA Airlines which is a US Airways Express carrier. In the year 2012, the airport handled 2,607,528 passengers and 57,914 aircrafts, making it the 3rd busiest airports in Ohio. It is at an elevation of 308 meters above sea level and at present there is only 1 terminal that is divided in 2 concourses – A and B. 3is The airport is also an important regional air cargo hub for Aviation Facilities Company Inc., FedEx Express and FedEx Trade Networks. It was earlier known as Dayton Municipal Airport.

History

The airport has been operational since August 1928 when it was called as 'Dayton Airport'. The Dayton Municipal Airport began operating with three 1,100 m concrete runways and connecting taxiways, on 17th December, 1936. The airport was renamed as James M. Cox-Dayton Municipal Airport in the year 1952 to honor James M. Cox who was the Governor of Ohio and the US Presidential candidate of the Democratic Party. The airport got a new terminal (at $5.5 million) in 1959. In the year 1975, the airport was rechristened as James M. Cox Dayton International Airport. the airport has been constantly expanded and renovated to keep up with the growing number of passengers. The airport boasts of state-of-the-art infrastructure with best of equipment and facilities.

How to Check-in

Web check-in and mobile check-in options are available with most of the airline flying to and from Dayton International Airport. Generally web as well as counter check-in can be done anywhere between 24 hours to 2 hours prior to departure of flight. Print your boarding pass in advance to avoid waiting in the long queue at the airport. At the airport, multiple check-in counters are available, which generally closes 1 hour before departure of domestic flight. Passengers are request to arrive minimum 2 hours before their flight departure to allow enough time for parking, check-in and clearance of the checkpoint.

Baggage Allowance

The limit of baggage allowance may differ from one airline to the other as every airline operating from the Dayton International Airport may have different regulations regarding the same. As a standard, followed by most of the airlines around the country, passengers are not allowed to check-in a bag which exceeds 32 kg in weight. In order to keep the ticket price low, some of the airlines do not have provision for check-in baggage and if you are carrying one, you need to pay for its beforehand.
