Radio was installed in 1932 followed by murram in replacement of their grass runway surfaces in 1935. Asphalt was applied to the main runway in 1945. The airport was subsequently closed for renovations and reopened after the facilities were further extended as a preparatory measure for services by the de Havilland Comet. The current passenger terminal at the airport was built in the 1970s alongside runway 17/35. The Ugandan military makes use of the Old Entebbe Airport whilst the new one is a commercial airport. The Entebbe Airport was the site of the Israeli rescue operation of an Air France Flight 139. In February 2015, the Ugandan Government received a US$10 million grant to modernize the Entebbe International Airport.

In 2013, owing to a steady increase in traffic at the airport, the Entebbe International Airport handled over 1.3 million passengers. The Airport experienced a slight drop in 2009 due to the Recession that occurred during that period.

Where no such provision is made, passengers have the option of checking in at the airport in person. The friendly airport and airline staff at the airport will always be on hand to guide the passengers through every step of the way.

Baggage and Allowance

Baggage allowance is affected by numerous factors. First is the nature of the trip. Domestic flights generally attract lesser weight and size allowance than international flights. Long haul flights tend to attract higher weight allowance than short haul flights. Again, the airlines may set their regulations on the baggage allowed. Also the regulating customs authority at the intended destination may affect the baggage allowance. Hence it is therefore preferable that you check with your airline to find out the baggage allowance provided for your trip before proceeding to travel.

Passengers are expected to find out from their airlines to find out the guidelines related to seating aboard their aircrafts. Passengers who check in online are given the opportunity to pick a seat online. Passengers have to clarify with their airline or travel agency before making a booking or reservation.
