Fort Lauderdale International Airport, which is officially known as Fort Lauderdale–Hollywood International Airportis near cruise line terminals at Port Everglades, around 5 km from Fort Lauderdale and 33.7 km from Miami. Owned by Broward County and operated by Broward County Aviation Department, it is in unincorporated Broward County in Florida and currently serves Greater Miami.The airport is hub for Silver Airways, Spirit Airlines and IBC Airways and serves a focus city for JetBlue Airways, Allegiant Air, and Southwest Airlines. This is Miami’s second most important airports, after Miami International Airport and is a common airport among tourists bound for the Caribbean.The airport managed 24,648,306 passengers and 255,406 aircrafts, making it 14th busiest international air gateway in Florida, 21st busiest airport in United States and among the 50 busiest airports in the world. At an elevation of 3 meters above sea level, Fort Lauderdale International Airport currently has a 2,743 meters long asphalt runway and a 2,438 meters long concrete runway.


Merle Fogg Airport was the airport serving the region since May 1st 1929.Durring the Second World War, the airport was used by the United States Navy and was renamed as Naval Air Station Fort Lauderdale. The airport was officially closed on 1st October 1946 and all services were transferred to Broward County International Airport.Services began at the new airport from June 2, 1953 and by the year 1966 the airport was operating 48 airlines in a day. In February 2007, the airport became one of the few airports in the world to administer fees to private pilots. The airport has been renovated and expanded multiple times in the past and at present Terminal 4 is used by arriving passengers and Terminal 1, 2 and 3 are used by departing passengers.


Air Canada, Air Canada Rouge, Alaska Airlines, American Airlines, Azul Brazilian Airlines, Caribbean Airlines, Copa Airlines, Dynamic Airways, Norwegian Air Shuttle, SkyBahamas Airlines, Spirit Airlines, Tropic Ocean Airways and Virgin America are the major airline companies that operate regular passenger flights to and from the Fort Lauderdale International Airport. While Air Evac International, BBA Aviation, iJet Charters, Sheltair Aviation Services and Sun Air International  are the major charter flight operators, Amerijet International, DHL Express, FedEx Express, IBC Airways and UPS Airlines operate cargo flights.


Though this is among the busiest airports in the world and offers numerous facilities and services to its passengers, but till now Fort Lauderdale International Airport has not won any awards.
