In 1994, construction of new access road, power plant, taxiway, aircraft apron, and terminal building started. There was also the construction of a car park, double lane and an impressive detour on Puerto de Rosario-Matorral. With these new facilities, it was more than possible to handle more than five million passengers annually. The airport could now handle more than 3,100 passengers every hour during the rush hour periods.
