Girona–Costa Brava Airport is an airport located 12.5 km southwest of the city of Girona, next to the small village of Vilobí d'Onyar, in the north-east of Catalonia, Spain. Well connected to Costa Brava and the Pyrenees, Girona Airport is also used as an alternative airport for Barcelona as well, even though the airport is 92 km north of Barcelona! Passenger traffic ranges from 3 million to 5 million a year, making the airport a fairly slow-paced one compared to the other Spanish airport AENA. Additionally, the airport is only a 40-minute drive from the French border so many people use Girona Airport to get to the Pyrenees and the ski resorts of Andorra.
There is only 1 terminal in the airport and it hosts both the departures and arrivals. On the ground floor there are 33 check-in desks, with 11 boarding gates on the first floor for both domestic and international flights. There is only 1 café and 1 fast food restaurant in the airport and they are located at the departure area of the airport.
Get all your diving gear from the airport shop Divers before heading out to the clear blue seas of Girona. If you are already well-packed, why not shop for some sweet treats or beach fashion at the duty-free shop to sweeten your vacation. Find out about the local fashion scene by logging on to the free WiFi service throughout the airport or at the multimedia terminals. Information services are also available to assist and guide you around the airport and answer any questions you might have about travelling in Girona.
A good number of car rental and tour operators also welcome you to view their packages at the arrival area. If you have not planned an itinerary, why not take a tour to catch all the sights of Girona and have a guide explain the architecture and history of the various sights. The adventurous can try driving around Girona and even Barcelona. Rent a car and take an exciting road trip.
