Guatemala City Airport, formally known as La Aurora International Airport is the primary airport serving Guatemala. Located at a distance of 25 from Antigua Guatemala, it is a military cum public airport owned by Ministerio de Comunicaciones, Infraestructura y Vivienda and managed by Dirección General de Aeronáutica Civil. At an elevation of 1,509 meters above sea level, the La Aurora International Airport presently has a single asphalt runway measuring 2,987 meters in length. In term of passenger, this is the 4th busiest airport in Central America after Tocumen International Airport, Juan Santamaría International Airport and Comalapa International Airport. Though the airport has been accredited with Category I certificate, it has been declared as Category 3 by the FAA due to its poor management and other government issues. There are 2 terminals at the airport and houses 2 VIP lounges.
The La Aurora International Airport has been serving a people of Guatemala Since the 2nd World war in 1941, when it was used by the United States Army Air Forces Sixth Air first American personnel service started. The airport was expanded in 1942 by United States' 805th Engineer Aviation Battalion. The airport underwent another round of expansion in 2007 when 7 new gates were opened and the parking area was built. Significant expansions in terms of runway were also conducted. The airport got a new terminal as well. The airport is presently under renovation and once completed, the airport will be equipped with modernized illumination system, extended taxiway and a regional terminal will also be built.
At present Aerolíneas Sosa, Aeroméxico, American Airlines, Avianca, Avianca Costa Rica, Avianca El Salvador, Avianca Guatemala, Avianca Honduras, Copa Airlines, Transportes Aereos Guatemaltecos, CM Airlines, Delta Air Lines, Iberia, Interjet, Spirit Airlines, United Airlines, Copa Airlines Colombia, Veca Airlines and Volaris operate scheduled passenger flights from the airport. ABX Air, Aero Ruta Maya, Amerijet International, Avianca Cargo, DHL DHL Aero Expreso, DHL De Guatemala, FedEx Express, Florida West International Airways, LAN Cargo, MasAir, UPS and Martinair Cargo are the cargo airline companies operating to and from the La Aurora International Airport.
La Aurora International Airport is a major international airport in the country and though it offers world class facilities and services to its passengers, the airport has still not received any awards for its contribution towards the civil aviation sector of Guatemala.

Multiple check-in options are available for passengers travelling to and from the La Aurora International Airport. Passengers are requested to arrive at least 2 hour before departure of international flight and 1 hour before departure of domestic flights. If you fail to report within time, then the airline has the right to deny boarding. Since the airport is very crowded and passengers have to wait in the long queue for counter check-in it is advisable that you check-in online. This facility is available with most of the airlines and can be availed 24 hours before departure.
