Located around 45 km south of Kuala Lumpur city in Selangor, Kuala Lumpur International Airport is the prime international airport in Malaysia offering flight services to various destinations across the world. Also, one of the South East Asia’s main airports, this public airport is under the operation of Malaysia Airports Holdings Berhad.

Inaugurated on 27th June’1998, it has been serving the Greater Klang Valley of Malaysian region. The first domestic airline to land at the airport as was Malaysian Airlines flight MH1263 flying from Kuantan Airport while Malaysian Airlines flight MH188 was the first international flight from Male International Airport to arrive at the airport after its inauguration.

Considered to be as one of the fastest growing airports in Asia, Kuala Lumpur International Airport is capable of handling 70 million travelers and 1.2 million cargo tonnes a year and ranks as the 4th busiest international airport in the world. There are three parallel runways and two of the operational runways which are situated 2 km from each other are specially formulated to handle simultaneous take-offs as well as landings. The airport is also equipped with world’s tallest air traffic control tower and is the major base for AirAsia, AirAsiaX, Malaysia Airlines, Malindo Air and MASkargo.

Terminals– The airport Passenger Terminal Complex features three terminal buildings – the Main Terminal Building, the Contact Pier and the Satellite Building. The terminals are facilitated with immigration processing services as well as security scanning for all travelers including domestic travelers.

The Satellite terminal is mainly used for majority of the international flights whereas the main building’s contact pier serves domestic routes as well as regional international airlines along with some international flights flying to other hubs within Malaysia.

Sprawling on area of 390,000 sq m, the Main Terminal Building comprises of 216 check-in counters and has both domestic as well as international facilities. Multi-check facility is also available at this terminal. The Contact Pier, which is connected to the Main Terminal Building is majorly used for domestic purposes and also handles some international flights.

Covering an area of 176,000 sq m, the Satellite Terminal A handles international airlines departing and arriving at the airport and has the capacity of handling more than 20 million passengers a year. However, the KLIA2, which was opened on 2nd May, 2014 is the low-cost carrier terminal consisting of 60 departure gates, 8 remote stands and 80 aerobridges is capable of serving 45 million travelers per annum.

Facilities such as ATMs, baby care rooms, baggage services, free wi-fi access, banking and money exchange, health and beauty service, Kiosks and information counters, lounges, luggage storage, postal and courier service, medical help & pharmacies, restaurants, shopping areas, prayers rooms, smoking areas, telecommunications, hotel and special assistance to aged as well as physically challenged passengers are available at the airport.
