This airport serves as the main commercial airport in this region. It lies 8km from Las Vegas city. This air facility sits on 1100 ha of land. Currently, it operates two terminals and four runways. Clark County owns and operates this airport. The airport was named in honor of a former Nevada senator (1876-1954). It is a major operating base for Southwest Airlines and Allegiant Air. It is a maintenance and crew base for Spirit Airlines.

It is the 24th busiest airport in the world. Over 41 million passengers went through in 2013. In plane movements, its number 8 worldwide. Southwest airlines had the busiest schedules in this facility in 2013/14. Delta came second with 10% followed by united airlines. McCarran’s largest carrier is Canadian airline WestJet. This served both international and chartered airlines. It is the first airport to implement Common Use Terminal Equipment. This greatly improved efficiency.
