Lome Airport – Logo’s Major Airport

Gnassingbé Eyadéma International Airport which is commonly known as Lomé–Tokoin Airport serves the city of Lome which is the capital of Togo. This airport is a hub for ASKY Airlines and is a joint military and civil airport. At an elevation of 22 meters above sea level, the airport currently has a single asphalt runway which measures 3,001 meters in length. The airport recorded 241,079 passenger movements in the year 2009. A new terminal is being constructed at the existing airport and is scheduled to open in late 2015. It is the largest airport in the country and provides services to many domestic as well as international destinations. The city of Lome is very famous for its historical and heritage attractions along with bustling markets. The Lome Airport is the major point of entry for those tourists who are planning a holiday in Lome.


The Lome International Airport has been the serving the people of the Togo for many decades now. The airport was named as Gnassingbé Eyadéma International Airport to commemorate General Gnassingbé Eyadéma, who served as the President of Togo from 1967 until his death in 2005.


At present, Air Burkina, Air Côte d'Ivoire, Air France, ASKY Airlines, Brussels Airlines, Ceiba Intercontinental Airlines, Ethiopian Airlines and Royal Air Maroc operate regular passenger flights to and from the Lome International Airport. Africa West Airlines operated cargo flights to Bamako, Bangui, Cotonou, Liège and Niamey from the Lome International airport.


No award has till now been given to the Lome International Airport for it numerous facilities, decent services and passenger friendly staff. Despite being one of the major international gate ways to the charming country, the Lome International Airport has not been able to garner any travel related awards.

How to Check-in

While counter check-in is the preferred mode of check-in among the travellers, few airline companies offer web check-in option as well. This option can be availed from 24 hours prior to the departure of your flight up till 2 hours before departure. For passengers doing online check-in and travelling with hold luggage, please note that the baggage drop-off points closes 40 minutes prior to departure. This facility allows passengers to print their boarding pass and skip the long queue at the airport counter. For passengers opting for counter check-in, the cut off time is 70 minutes prior to departure for economy class passengers and 60 minutes prior to departure for those travelling in business class. While this is just an indicative time, the airline may have different check-in timing. So make sure you check regarding the check-in time with your airline before leaving for the airport.

Baggage Allowance

For detailed information on baggage limit, cabin luggage restrictions and excess baggage fee, contact your airline directly as every airline flying out of Lome International Airport might have a different policy regarding the same. As a general trend, followed by most of the standard international airports around the world, passengers travelling to domestic route can check-in 20 kg while carry only 5-7 kg as hand baggage. For those travelling to international sector, the checked-in baggage limit increases to 32 kg and cabin luggage up to 12 kg is allowed. Depending upon your class of travel, route of travel or the airline policy, this limit can increase or decrease. In case of excess baggage charges are applicable and can be paid at the airport itself.
