London Heathrow Airport
Regarded as the main international air gate into the United Kingdom, London Heathrow Airport, also known as the London Airport or Heathrow is located 23 km west of central London and is the largest as well as the busiest airport in the United Kingdom. Heathrow is London’s prime airport and is owned and operated by Heathrow Airport Holdings. In 2012, the airport hosts 70 million passengers taking the position of world’s 3rd busiest airport by passenger numbers. More than 90 airlines use this airport which flies to 170 destinations in the world.
Heathrow is the major hub for British Airways and Virgin Atlanta. The airport consists of five passenger terminals and a cargo terminal. There are two runways measuring 3,902 m and 3,660 m in length in the direction - 09L/27R and 09R/27L. A wide range of services and facilities are also equipped at the airport. Some of the major services provided at Heathrow include business & VIP facilities, lounges, cash machines, information desks, internet access, medical help, porters, post office, smoking areas, prayer rooms, restaurants, cafes, shopping areas, social care and many others.
