This is a primary commercial airport for the New Orleans metropolitan area and southeast Louisiana and is the 2nd lowest-lying international airport in the world. The city was named after Louis Armstrong, who was a famous jazz musician from New Orleans in the year 2001. In the year 2014, the airport served 9,785,394 passengers and 127,753 aircraft movements. The airport currently has 2 terminals which have 4 attached concourses.


The current airport was built to replace the old airport, New Orleans Lakefront Airport, after the Second World was then called as Moisant International Airport, after John Moisant, a daredevil aviator. The airport served as a government base during the Second World War and commercial service began only in 1946. The airport got its first terminal in 1959 and few decades later the name was changed to New Orleans International Airport. Several hurricanes and tornados have caused major damages to the airport, but the airport has been expanded and renovated multiple times to make it one of the most popular airports in the country.
