Reus Airport whose IATA acronym is REU and ICEO acronym is LERS is a public airport. Located on the beaches of Costa Daurada, the airport receives a large amount of traffic. Costa Daurada is equidistant from the town of Constanti and the city of Reus. It is 7.5 km away from the city of Tarragona which is at Catalonia in Spain. Reus airport receives their traffic of tourists from the passengers who are destined to go to any of the beach resorts at Salou, Cambrils and Barcelona city. City of Barcelona is 100 km towards the North east and happens to be near one of the largest theme parks of Europe, PortAventura. Passengers also travel to the Prades Mountain which is a Mediterranean forest. Several general aviation and sports aircrafts also operate at the Reus airport. To accommodate traffic coming at the airport, Aena Aeropuertos carried out several improvements in the airport and expanded the facilities. These new facilities include a new check-in building.
Reus airport was a result of the venture by Auroclub de Reus. Founded in the year 1935, the airport served as a Republican base. It served as a base during the Civil war in Spain. In the year 1990s, the military base was completely replaced by a civilian airport. Reus airport was then administered by airport authority of Spain, AENA. Ryan Air airline has its base at the Reus airport since October of the year 2008. During years 2009 to 2010 however, the airline reduced the number of flights as well as the destinations from the Reus airport by a significant amount. The reduction of flights and destinations was done very temporarily for the winter months. The airport began a full bright program again in late March of year 2010. Ryan air airline announced on 29th June of year 2011 the closing of their base. The base would be closed on 30th October and would result in loss of 28 routes after the agreement to reach the local government failed. On March of year 2012, the airline resumed some of their flights but the flights were then operated by the aircrafts which were not based at Reus.
