Belitung (Tanjung Pandan) – The Way to Enter Belitung Island
A major domestic airport serving Belitung Island, Belitung Airport is also known as H.A.S. Hanandjoeddin Airport. Also called as Buluh Tumbang Airport, It is one of the smaller but important airports located in Tanjung Pandan, Bangka-Belitung, Indonesia. A public airport operated by the government of Indonesia, Buluh Tumbang Airport and is very close to the Kajarta Airport. The Jakarta Airport, also known as Soekarno Hatta International Airport is the nearest international airport and a flight from Jakarta just takes 45 minutes to reach the H.A.S. Hanandjoeddin Airport. Bandung airport and Batam airport are also located close to the airport. A public airport located at an elevation of 50 meters above sea level the Buluh Tumbang Airport has a single asphalt runway measuring 1,849 meters. Please note that every departing passenger from the airport has to pay a departure tax between Rp. 20,000 and Rp. 40,000, so make sure you carry the local currency as entry to the departure is permitted only after the tax is paid.
The airport has been serving the Island of Belitung for a few decades. It is a small airport in Indonesia but serves as an entry point to one of the most famous tourist destinations in the country. The government has declared Belitung Island as a major as special tourism zone and the plans to extend the runway at the airport has been approved by the government.
Garuda Indonesia, Garuda Indonesia operated by Explore Garuda, Citilink, Lion Air, Sriwijaya Air and Wings Air are the only airline companies currently operating to and from the Buluh Tumbang Airport.
This is a small airport as compared to the major airports in the country and though it provides basic facilities and decent service, it has still not received any award.
Routes and Destinations
At present Wings Air and Sriwijaya Air operate twice daily to neighboring Bangka from Pangkal Pinang airport. Sriwijaya Air, Garuda Indonesia and Citilink currently operate flights to Jakarta that takes only 50 minutes to reach the capital city. No other destination, other than Jakarta and Pangkal Pinang, are connected from the Buluh Tumbang Airport.
