Tianjin Airport – China’s Major Aviation Center

A part of Dongli District in Tianjin, Tianjin Binhai International Airport which is simply known as Tianjin Airport is among the major air cargo centers in the People's Republic of China. The airport is focus city for Air China and Xiamen Airlines and serves as a hub for Tianjin Airlines and Okay Airways. At an elevation of 3 meters above sea level, it is a public airport currently operated by Civil Aviation Administration of China. In the year 2010, the airport handled 7,277,106 passengers, making the Tianjin Binhai International Airport, the 22nd busiest airport in China. The airport is located at a distance of 13 km from the city center and the Tianjin New Port is approximately 30 km from here. The airport currently has 2 terminals, where only the terminal 2d is used for passenger services. There are 2 concrete runways measuring 3,600 and 3,200 meters each.


This is the 2nd largest airport in Northern China and has been serving the people for many decades. The airport has undergone many expansions and renovations, the latest being in 2005 which gave the airport a new terminal. The refurbished airport looks similar to the Amsterdam's Schiphol airport in size and has the ability to handle 40 million passengers a year. As on June 8th, 2015, the Tianjin Binhai International Airport offers 72-hour visa-free transit policy to passport holders of 51 countries.

How to Check-in

Passengers travelling from the Tianjin Binhai International Airport can avail multiple options of check-in. option of online check-in and mobile check-in can be availed from 24 hours up till 1 hour before the schedule departure of your flight and you can even print your boarding pass. For the convenience of passengers travelling from the airport, Automatic check-in machines can be used and they are located at both sides of Gate 2 of Departure Hall at 2/F. This system opens 90 minutes before the flight departure and closes 30 minutes before the departure. Please note that this facility is available only with a few airlines. Counter check-in options too can be availed and passengers are advised to report 2 hours before departure of domestic flight and 3 hours in case of international travel.

Baggage Allowance

Different airlines have different policy regarding baggage allowance. However, as a general trend across all airports passengers travelling in domestic sector can check-in 20 kg to 40 kg of luggage depending upon the class of travel and can carry 5 kg of carry-on luggage per person. Those travelling in international sector can check-in up to 50 kg and carry 10 kg as carryon luggage. In case of excess baggage, charges for the same will have to be paid by the passenger.


Option of pre booking of seat is allowed by most of the airlines and they charge a small fee for the same. Passengers can book their seat while online check-in, 24 hours before departure. At the airport, seats are allotted on first come first serve basis so if you want your choice of seat without paying anything extra, arrive at the airport early. Please note that the airline do not guarantee the allotment of your preferred sea during counter check-in. So if you are looking for a specific seat, it is advisable that you book your seat online.

Booking Fee

Making an online reservation is the most convenient way to book your flight ticket. This can be done on the airline’s website or the website of the airport and a small fee is levied to avail this service. Tickets can be also bought over the airline counter at the counter without any surcharge. Option of cancellation or modification is available but each airline has its own policy regarding the same. It is advisable to contact your airline directly in case of cancellation or modification.
