A major airport in Thailand, Surat Thani Airport serves the Phunphin District, Surat Thani. This is a joint military and civil airport that is operated by Department of Aviation. The airport is also extensively used by Royal Thai Air Force squadron. Situated at an elevation of 87 meter above sea level, the Surat Thani Airport is located at a distance of 21 km from west of the city in the Phun Phin District. The airport has a single asphalt runway which measures 3,000 meters in length. In the year 2014, the airport handled 1,321,909 passengers and consists of only one large terminal that serves both domestic and international flights.
Not much information is available on the history of Surat Thani airport. However, the airport has been serving the people of Thailand for many decades now and has been renovated and expanded multiple times to accommodate the growing number of passengers. The city of Surat Thani is known for its picturesque beaches and charming natural attractions and is one of the most popular tourist places in Thailand.
Currently only Air China, AirAsia, Nok Air, Thai AirAsia, Thai Lion Air and Thai smile operate direct flights to and from the Surat Thani airport. Many cargo airlines also operate flight from this airport.
This is not a very fancy or large airport as compared to the major international airports in Thailand and offers decent facilities to its passengers.
