Serving the capital of Laos in Vientiane, Vientiane Airport is officially known as Wattay International Airport and is around 3 km from the city center. Located in the Sikhodtabong District in Vientiane, the airport is at an elevation of 172 meters above sea level. A military cum public cum civil authority airport, it is operate by Military of Laos and has a single asphalt runway measuring 3,000 meters in length. The airport houses head office of the Department of Civil Aviation as well as the headquarters of Lao Air. The military installation is located at the one end of the airport. At present the airport has one old small domestic terminal and a new international terminal. Bonded warehouse for cargo, bars, bank, restaurant, shops and post office are among the facilities available at the Wattay International Airport.
The airport has been serving the people of Vientiane for many decades and has been constantly upgraded, renovated and expanded to make it one of the best airports in the country. The airport boasts of a new terminal which has been constructed in a modern style and is being regularly upgraded to provide a comfortable travel experience to the passengers.
Present facility at the airport serves as base for AirAsia, Bangkok Airways, Cambodia Angkor Air, China Eastern Airlines, Jin Air, Lao Air, Lao Airlines, Sky Wings Asia Airlines, Lao Central Airlines, Thai Airways, T'way Airlines and Vietnam Airlines which operates regular passenger flights to and from the Wattay International Airport.
Though the Wattay International Airport is a primary international airport in Laos and serves as gateway to the charming country, till now it has not received any awards for its service and facilities.

How to Check-in
Some of the airlines operating from the Wattay International Airport do not offer the option of online check-in or mobile check-in. Please check with your airline regarding the same before travel. Web check-in options can be generally availed from 24 hours to 3 hours before departure. During counter check-in passengers are requested to carry personal identification for verification at the airport and passengers who are unable to show their ID will be denied boarding. Generally check-in desks at the airport open 2 hours prior to departure of international flights and 1 hour before departure of domestic flight.
