Xiamen Airport (XMN) – Visit China’s Fascinating City

A public airport operated by Xiamen International Airport Group Co., Ltd. (XIAGC), Xiamen Gaoqi International Airport is an important airport in China serving Xiamen. Also referred to as Xiamen Airport, it is at an elevation of 18 meters above sea level and is hub for Xiamen Airlines. The airport currently has a single asphalt runway measuring 3,400 meters in length. TAECO, an aircraft maintenance provider is also based at the airport. Located in north side of Xiamen Island, it is around 10 km from the city center. The airport managed 22,354,076 passengers in 2014 to become the 11th busiest in terms of passenger, 8th busiest airport in China in terms of cargo and 10th busiest airport by traffic movements. The airline has single passenger terminal spreading on an area of 149 thousand-square-meter. As of April, 2015, tourists from 51 countries can enjoy a visa-free stay of up to 72 hours at the Xiamen Gaoqi International Airport.

History

The airport was inaugurated in 1983 and has been serving the people of the region, ever since. Multiple rounds of renovations, expansion and up gradations have been done to make it one of the best international airports in China.

The airport at present operates 75 air routes to 58 domestic and 17 foreign cities. Air China, Air Macau, All Nippon Airways, Beijing Capital Airlines, Cambodia Angkor Air, Chengdu Airlines, China Eastern Airlines, China Express Airlines, China Southern Airlines, Far Eastern Air Transport, Hebei Airlines, Juneyao Airlines, Kunming Airlines, Malaysia Airlines, Philippine Airlines, Shanghai Airlines, Tianjin Airlines and Xiamen Airlines are some of the many airline companies that operate regular passenger flights to and from the airport. ANA Cargo, Cargolux, Cathay Pacific Cargo, China Cargo Airlines, Hong Kong Airlines Cargo, Korean Air Cargo, Martinair Cargo, Singapore Airlines Cargo and Yangtze River Express are the major airline operating cargo flights to and from the Xiamen Gaoqi International Airport.

Awards

Xiamen Gaoqi International Airport is one of the best airports in the country and though it offers some of the best of amenities and services, it has not received any awards till now.

How to Check-in

Option of web check-in is available with most of the airline flying out of Xiamen International Airport. You can check-in 24 hours prior to departure of the flight and passengers can print their boarding pass to avoid waiting in line at the airport. At the airport, multiple check-in desks are available and are marked both in Chinese and English. Check-in counters generally open 2 hours before departure of international flights and 1 hour before schedule departure of domestic flight. Make sure you reach in time or else you can be denied boarding by the airlines. Also keep some time in hand for security checks and baggage screening.

Baggage Allowance

To know is detail about the baggage allowance along with information on restricted items and excess baggage, please contact the airline directly as every airline might have a different policy regarding the same. Generally passengers are allowed to carry anywhere between 5 kg to 12 kg as cabin luggage and 20 kg to 32 kg as hold luggage. The limit may vary depending upon the class of travel, destination you are travelling to and the type of airline. Charges are applicable in case you are travelling with excess baggage and the same can be paid at the airport. 

Seating

If you are keen on getting a seat of your choice on the aircraft, then booking one is the best way. At present, most of the airlines operating to and from the Xiamen International Airport provide passengers with an option of pre selection of seat. This can be done during online check-in, 24 hours prior to departure. At the airport, during counter check-in, passengers can request for their preferred seat but they are not assured by the airline. To enjoy spectacular views of the city and its surrounding during landing or takeoff, book a window seat.

Although chargeable, booking a ticket online, at the website of the airline is the best way to book your ticket.
