Tourists should be very careful while driving in Delhi as Delhi public is known to break traffic rules. One should be careful of pedestrians suddenly crossing highways, reckless driving and over speeding, swerving without indicating or looking both ways, not indicating while taking turns, breaking traffic signals and a good amount of lane-splitting.
If you’re not sure about driving on the mean streets of Delhi, do hire a driver.
###Car renting tips
Usually, most car rentals rent cars with manual transmission. If tourists want an automatic one, they should inform the company beforehand. It will also help save time, energy and also avoid last-minute abusive charges.
In order to rent a car without a driver, tourists need to submit copies of their driving licence, credit card, passport, and their International Driving Permit (IDP). If the Delhi Police stop you, they could ask for all documents.
Insurance is questionable in car rental companies so make sure you get all kinds of collision and damage waivers before you rent a car.
Weather in Delhi can get very, very hot and it has proved to be fatal in the past too. Tourists are advised to stock up on water and fluids and rent A/C cars in order to be comfortable while travelling.
Tourists need to be of 18 years of age and need to possess a valid local licence issued by country of residence as well as an International Driving Permit.
