Tacos. Sushi. Vegan heaven. It’s time to dive under the surface of LA to taste its treats.
Los Angeles is a gastronomic paradise. LA’s food scene ticks the traditional boxes and borrows flavours from all over the world. Each neighbourhood brings something to the party, creating a rich tapestry of flavours. The food culture is dynamic, diverse and daring. And it’s one that celebrates the multicultural heritage of the city.
LA: A melting pot of cuisines
To truly experience LA is to taste LA. Yes, you already know Los Angeles has Mexican and Latin roots. The clue’s in the name. But diversity in LA is so much more than just tacos – although you can get some that truly tempt your tastebuds.
So, what is the best food in Los Angeles? It depends on what you love. Cuisines from all over the world burst at the seems of the city. You’ll sample Korean BBQ in LA, ramen in Little Tokyo and go all out vegan in Venice. Knives, forks and fingers at the ready, we’re going in.
Koreatown
Authentic Korean cuisine
The smell of Korean BBQ. Those wings. Kimchi. You’re in Koreatown and it never disappoints. The largest Korean population outside of Korea calls this neighbourhood home, so you know the food will be authentic. It’s the place to go for traditional BBQ, bibimbap and soju. Hit up Park’s BBQ, Soban and Hangari Bajirak Kalhuksu for our favourite flavours. And it’s not just about the Koreatown food scene – yes, there are karaoke and dive bars too.
Venice Beach
Vegan vibes
You know what Venice is about. It’s got little canals and bridges. It’s got surfing and skating. It’s got the boho vibe and it’s got colourful bars and restaurants. But boy does it have a food scene too. If you’re looking for vegan food or organic restaurants in LA, Venice is your vibe. Some of our favourite Venice beach restaurants include Gjelina for weekend brunch, Great White for Aussie café feels and The Butcher’s Daughter for veggie and vegan treats.

West Hollywood
Upscale and unforgettable
Between Beverly Hills and Hollywood, West Hollywood is upscale, luxury and all about quality. Whether you’re talking bars, clubs or restaurants. Think Sunset Boulevard, Sunset Plaza and the intersection of Santa Monica and La Cienega.
West Hollywood dining options showcase some of the best upscale restaurants in LA – our favourites include Catch LA, E.P & L.P. You’ll find a mix of home and international cuisines taken to the next level.

Little Tokyo
Little neighbourhood, big flavours
Looking for the best sushi in LA? Get your chopsticks ready and head down to Little Tokyo. It’s full of classic Japanese charm and is an outpost for the city’s Japanese population. We mentioned the sushi, but don’t sleep on the sashimi, ramen and udon, plus a whole host of other Japanese delicacies. Our top spots for the best Japanese cuisine in LA include Sushi Gen, Daikokuya Ramen, Kinjiro, and Marugame Monzo.
Insider tip:
For Japanese breakfast, visit Azay. We’re talking broiled fish, tamago, tofu, miso soup, and a side of rice, plus a few pickles for good measure.
East LA
Fall in love with Latin flavours
Tacos. Yes. Tortas. You know it. Burritos. Of course. Just east of the LA River is the place for Mexican and Latin American cuisine in LA. You’ll get the best tacos in LA and arguably anywhere in California, plus more Mexican marvels. Head to Guisados for their rich stews and thick tortillas. Hit up La Azteca Tortilleria’s burritos for the fluffiest tortillas you’ve ever had.
Insider tip:
Eating on the street here is super fun too. Don’t miss the shrimp tacos dorados and aquachile served up at the Mariscos Jalisco truck..
