Agartala is the capital of Tripura. It is the second-largest city in entire North-East India (after Guwahati). This city has been home to various rulers before it merged with India in 1949. Apart from its religious places, Agartala also has a few attractions to boast about. Let's start with the Ujjayanta Palace. This gorgeous palace covers an area of 1km with its massive structure and Mughal-style gardens. The magnificent carvings and domes along with floodlights and splendid fountains make for a lovely sight. The Heritage Park showcases the rich cultural heritage of Tripura. This park is divided into 3 areas i.e. a mini Tripura, a natural forest and a section with medicinal plants, herbs and shrubs. The third iconic attraction in Agartala is the Sukanta Academy. This is a centre for science, culture and art. It is also home to a small planetarium and a children's park. Apart from these, there are many minor attractions like the royal mausoleums near the banks of the Howrah River, the Agartala town hall and the Dhaleshwar post office, among others.
