Located in Auckland, New Zealand, Auckland International Airport serves as the leading airport for the country, having welcomed and sent off countless domestic and international flights since 1966. It is home to Air New Zealand as the airline serves more than fifteen countries from its bases in the airport. Many commendable titles have also been bestowed upon the airport, such as the world’s 12th best airport in 2013 by SkyTrax. The airport is segregated into two distinct terminals, catering to international flights and domestic flights correspondingly, and a free bus service runs between the two terminals ferrying passengers to and fro. Facilities such as banks, travel and tour agencies, luggage storing services, wrapping services and postage amenities can be easily found throughout the airport. Duty-free shopping is also available for arriving passengers to indulge in before collecting their baggage. From the centre of the city, the airport is 21km south, easily accessible by both public and private transport.
How to get around in Auckland
While all taxis are able to ferry passengers to their departure halls, the airport has established regulations that allow only exclusive taxis with corresponding airport licences to pick passengers up from the arrival halls. This is done to ensure that no compromise has been made on the level of service delivered to passengers visiting the country. To get to the city by taxi, passengers may either hop into one of the cabs available outside their terminals, or book one prior to their arrival with any licensed company. Alternatively, passengers may also opt to take a bus down to the city, as services run regularly. Bus tickets may be purchased on location at the ticket kiosks, from bus drivers directly, or online prior to arrival. In terms of duration, the Airbus Express service can be considered one of the fastest, taking only ten minutes to get passengers to the Central Business District of the city. Visitors can also choose to rent a car at the airport or a campervan.
