Discover Brisbane

Brisbane Airport is the chief airport of Brisbane, and one of Australia’s busiest. The airport serves both domestic and international travellers, and acts as the gateway to Southeast Queensland’s most stunning natural attractions. Major carriers that serve Brisbane Airport include Air New Zealand, Qantas and Singapore Airlines.

Getting Around

The city centre is approximately 17.5 kilometres from the airport, and there are many ways to get there. A comfortable and convenient way is by boarding a taxi, found at the taxi ranks located outside both international and domestic terminals. Choose between Black & White or Yellow Cabs, to reach your destination quickly and safely. The extensive bus network helps transport passengers to and from the airport and Brisbane city, and to other Australian cities like the Gold Coast. Otherwise, take the Airtrain to the city centre; train services are regular, departing every 15 minutes during peak hours.

In the city centre, the best way to explore Brisbane is on foot. Attractions clustered in the city area are within close proximity, of walking distance. Note that past the city’s borders and inner suburbs, sights are rather dispersed; visitors may want to consider other forms of transport such as bicycles, motorcycles, car rentals, taxis, or public transport. If getting around by public transport, purchase the TransLink ‘go card’ to save money on travel. Board the trains and utilise public bus services to get to popular tourist attractions in an economical and efficient manner.

What to See & Do

In Brisbane, visit South Bank Parklands for a wonderful family day out. The park has many cafés and restaurants, green spaces and an artificial beach, ideal for a day of fun and relaxation. Wade through the cooling waters of the lagoons, speed down biking tracks, play ball games, and have a hearty BBQ. Head to Suncorp Piazza within South Bank for live entertainment and movies.

Explore the City Botanic Gardens. The Botanic Gardens is like a green oasis at the heart of Brisbane city. Take a leisurely stroll and admire the beautiful flora in your immediate surroundings. Cycle along the riverside, and soak in the scenery at your own time and pace. Have a picnic on the verdant green grass. The well-maintained, impressive Botanic Gardens, the pride of Brisbane, is one of the top destinations in the city.

Make a trip to the Lone Pine Sanctuary, a wildlife park that is home to the indigenous wildlife of Australia. The park houses the world’s first and largest koala sanctuary, with over 130 koalas. Cuddle a koala, feed a kangaroo, hold a snake, and get up close with many other birds and animals in the sanctuary.

Climb the Brisbane Story Bridge, similar to the Harbour Bridge in Sydney. The bridge gives visitors a scenic vantage point over Brisbane city. Like its Sydney counterpart, the Story Bridge is one of the only three bridges in the world that can be climbed. Hence, travellers should take the opportunity to capture a stunning panorama of the city. Choose from the four sessions available: Dawn, Day, Twilight and Night climbs. The view from above is definitely not to be missed!
