Phoenix – Arizona’s Valley of the Sun
The city of Phoenix is the capital as well as the largest city in Arizona State in United States of America. At an elevation of 331 meters above sea level, the city is home to 1,445,632 residents, who make it the most populous state capital in the United States and sixth most populous city nationwide. The city is the 13th largest metropolitan area in United States in terms of population also among the largest cities in United States, in terms of land area. An agricultural community which thrived near the confluence of the Salt and Gila Rivers in1867 was the old inhabitants of Phoenix, before the present city was formed in 1881. Currently, the city serves as the cultural center of the state. The history of Phoenix goes back to more than 2,000 years when it was under the jurisdiction of the Hohokam people. The city became a part of the New Mexico Territory after the Mexican-America war in 1848. The present city was founded by Jack Swilling who was a Confederate veteran of the Civil War. English is the official language spoken by majority of people.
