St Louis – Gateway to the West

A major city and port in the U.S. state of Missouri, St Louis is panoramically located on the western bank of the Mississippi River an shares it border with Illinois. The city is home to more than 2,905,893 residents who make it the 2nd largest city in the state and 58th most populous U.S. city. The economy of the city relies majorly on tourism along with service, manufacturing and transportation industries. The city is home to bigwig corporations like Ameren and Sigma-Aldrich and serves as the center of the largest Bosnian population, beside their homeland.  Founded in the year 1764 by Pierre Laclède and Auguste Chouteau, the city was named after Louis IX of France. The city came under the jurisdiction of United States and was developed as a major port. In the 19th century, it was 4th largest city in the United States. It became an independent city in 1877. While English is the prime language spoken by majority of people, Spanish, Bosnian, Vietnamese, African languages, Chinese and French are also spoken.

City Attractions

Start your St Louis city your from Gateway Arch which is located center of Jefferson National Expansion Memorial Park. Jefferson National Expansion Memorial Park is St Louis’s landmark attractions and houses many attractions within the park. Old Cathedral or Basilica of St Louis is the oldest church in the city and is home to the Old Cathedral Museum. The Old Courthouse located on the right-hand side of Market Street showcases historical exhibits. A visit to the city is incomplete if you do not visit the Missouri Botanical Garden which has a well-manicured rose garden, an aqua tunnel under the water-lily pool, Japanese Garden and a herbarium.

Forest Park which houses the St Louis Zoo is also a major draw.  Magic House & St Louis Children's Museum (showcasing hands-on exhibits about science, communications and computers), City Museum (famous for giant aquarium, architectural museum and art activities), Market Street (focal point of the city and home to many architectural attractions), Scott Joplin House (house of Scott Joplin, 'the father of ragtime'), Campbell House Museum and Laumeier Sculpture Park are the major sightseeing places in the city.
