Fly to Calgary International Airport, the airport which serves Calgary and also its surrounding regions. Located only 17km from the city centre of Calgary, it is Canada's third busiest airport by passenger traffic and aircraft movements, handling almost 15 million passengers yearly. The terminal has four concourses, where one is being subdivided into two wings, to separately accommodate international flights to United States and the rest of the world. Calgary International Airport has the longest runways in Canada due to its higher altitude, which planes need to travel a longer distance to take off due to lower density of air. For travellers interested in space and aeronautics, Calgary International Airport provides a learning space called SPACEPORT of over 6,000 square feet featuring hands-on exhibits and displays that will make your trip one that more informative.
Get to Calgary from the airport by taking one of the three public buses that pass through the airport. The most direct bus would be the Route 300 bus which is an express service downtown bus running every 20 minutes. Various payment methods such as cash and tickets are accepted on board. Other modes of transport include private taxis and Alberta's premium Red Arrow Motorcoach, equipped with complimentary WiFi, outlets, satellite radio, on-board lavatory, etc. Whichever your mode of transport, you are assured of a scenic view of Calgary.
Calgary has various nicknames such as C-Town, Cowtown, Heart of The New West and The Stampede City. Many Canadian cities have nicknames which are believed to promote civic pride; and build community unity. It is one of Alberta’s most populous cities with a metropolitan population of 1.2 million and a prairie city with a dry, sunny and windy climate and is a one-hour drive from the Rocky Mountains.
