The initial fund for the construction of the airport was approved in 1942 by President Franklin D. Roosevelt. The airport was used as base for training facilities by United States Army Air Corps during the Second World War. Until 1945 it was used by the Air Corps and civil services from the airport began only on October 27, 1946, when the first terminal opened at the airport. The Cincinnati or Northern Kentucky International Airport entered the jet era on 16th December 1960 and Delta Air Lines Convair 880 from Miami completed the first scheduled jet flight. Since then there has been no looking back. The airport has been regularly renovated and expanded to make it one of the best airports in the world.
