Considered amongst the oldest international airports in the world and Asia’s oldest airport, Don Mueang International Airport is a military cum public airport. Located about 28 km from Bangkok, the airport was initially opened as a base for Royal Thai Air Force in 1914. It was in 1924 that commercial flights started to operate in this airport and the first commercial flight ever landed was KLM Royal Dutch Airlines. For renovation and modification, the airport was closed in 2006 and it reopened on March 2007 for some domestic flights.

In 2013, Don Mueang International Airport hosted more than 16 million passengers and handled 135,988 aircraft operations. Operated by the Airports of Thailand, the airport resides at an elevation of 9 ft above sea level and features two runways. The two runways are 3,700 m and 3,500 m long that runs in the direction of 03L/21R and 03R/21L, with a capacity of assisting 60 airlines per hour. The airport serves the major hub for Thai AirAsia, Orient Thai Airlines, Nok Air and Thai Lion Air.

Terminals – The airport is equipped with three terminals, namely Terminal 1, Terminal 2 and Terminal 3. Terminal 1 and 2 are international terminals assisting international flights travelers. There are 124 check-in counters in Terminal 1 while Terminal 2 has 196 check-in counters. However, Terminal 2 is currently inactive and expected to open by the end of 2014. Terminal 2 mainly serves domestic travelers and has 43 check-in counters.
