A small yet scenic island located northwest of Tahiti in French Polynesia, Bora Bora is a small island in South Pacific. Famous for its aqua centric luxury resorts, Bora Bora is one of the most preferred holiday destinations in the world. Having a population of just 8,800 inhabitants, the island surrounded by a lagoon and a barrier reef and plentiful coconut tress grace the island. Mount Pahia and Mount Otemanu are the two major mountain peaks on Bora Bora. The island's highest elevation is 727 m and total land area is 29.3 km2. The history of the island goes back to the 4th century Ad when it was inhabited by Polynesian settlers. Bora Bora was an independent kingdom until 1888 when its last queen Teriimaevarua III was forced to abdicate by the French. The island was also used by the US as a South Pacific military supply base, an oil depot, airstrip, seaplane base, and defensive emplacements, during the 2nd World War. Tahiti is the official language of the people living in Bora Bora. French and English are also spoken widely.

During these months humidity is at its highest and the island is also hit by unpredictable storms. The dry season which lasts from May to October, is the best time from the tourism perspective. City Attraction

A volcanic caldera, the beaches, water sports, luxury resorts and a few heritage site sums up the list of attractions that tourists can visit in Bora Bora. This is basically a leisure destination and relaxing and soaking in the sun is the best thing you should do. For the history buffs, World War II Guns is a must see attraction. Located near the Hotel Matira, two American naval guns are poised here and view of the sea from here is spectacular. The beautiful church in Faauni Bay Village, the archaeological site at Marae Taianapa and Marae Marotetini, Marae Fare Opu whih has petroglyphs of turtles carved into the huge coral stones of the ahu and Musée de la Marine (a museum) should be visited by those interested in knowing more about the history and culture of the island.

The island is surrounded by sea from all sides but there are some points from where the view of the sea is simply breath taking. Taihi Point, Tereia Point, Fitiiu Point, Matira Point and TV Tower Look out are some of the popular sightseeing points in Bora Bora. Matira Beach is the largest beach in Bora Bora while Sofitel Bora Bora Marara Beach and Nunue beach are also known for their unique charms.
