Scenically located on the shores of Lake Erie in upstate New York, Buffalo is a city in the western state of New York in the U.S. The principal city of the Buffalo-Niagara Falls metropolitan area, Buffalo is also the 45th largest city in the United States and its proximity to the gorgeous Niagara Falls makes it a desirable tourist destination. Finance, technology, health care and education form the primary economic sector of Buffalo and in 2010, Forbes rated Buffalo the 10th best place to raise a family in the United States. Spreading on an area of 136.0 km2, it is located at an elevation of 183 meters above sea level and houses more than 261,310 residents.
