Gold Coast had become a popular holiday destination by 1875. Today the city is known for its theme parks, surfing opportunities, comfortable climate, rainforest and nightlife. English is the official language, spoken by majority of the people.

All flights coming to Gold Coast land at the Gold Coast Airport, which is located in the  Coolangatta area, around 22 km from the main city. The airport is well connected to interstate capitals and major cities across the world.  Having a humid subtropical climate, the city has hot and mud summer from December till April and warm winters from May till November. The average temperature does not exceed 35 °C in summer and does not come down more than 5 °C in winter. While the city can be visited at any time of the year, the best time for tourism in Gold Coast is from December to February and from March to May when the weather is neither too hot nor too cold. Wintersun Festival also known as Cooly Rocks On is a major festival, held in June. Some of the events and festivals that the city is famous for are Gold Coast Marathon in July and Northern Rivers Symphony Orchestra. Popular music festivals in Gold Coast include Big Day Out, Good Vibrations Festival and Summafieldayze.

City Attractions

Australia’s major holiday destination, God Coast can be rightly called as ‘’Las Vegas of Australia’. A city bustling and brimming with life, the city boasts multitude of natural chattels: beautiful golden beaches and an always pleasing weather. Begin your Gold Coast city tour from the Surfers Paradise Beach which is the lifeline of the city. A 3 km long beach, it is perfect for swimming and surfing. Line with hundreds of food stall and shops, the Surfers Paradise Beachfront Markets held every Wednesday, Friday, and Sunday nights are a major draw. SkyPoint is the tallest residential tower in Australia and offer commanding views of Gold Coast.

Currumbin Wildlife Sanctuary is a well-known wildlife park, ideal for sighting hundreds of birds. Adventure Park High Ropes Course, Segway tours, and a little train are all located within the park. Cavill Avenue in Surfer's Paradise is the entertainment hub of the city. Coolangatta is famous for its secluded beach. Sea World, the Largesmarine Park in Australia offers sea-themed rides along with shows performed by dolphins, sea lions, and water ski ballet.

Dreamworld (another extremely popular theme park), Warner Bros Movie World (a popular theme park for yond and adults alike), Lamington National Park (a World Heritage site famed for its rainforest scenery, many waterfalls, and quirky wildlife) and Springbrook National Park (another beautiful rainforest with multiple attractions) are some of the many tourist attractions in Gold Coast, one should not miss.

Eating and Shopping

The cuisine option in Gold Coasts is as varied as the multi-cultural people in the city. From theme restaurant to unique eating places to cheap stalls and beach side cafes, everything is available for tourists. If you are craving for Japanese or Korean food then visit back arcades of Surfers Paradise that are noted for their 'lunchbox style restaurants' at pretty affordable rates. Tedder Avenue in Main Beach and the area near Broadbeach area have the highest concentration of restaurants serving range of sea food along with cool drinks. Peter's Fish Market is the best place to enjoy the famous and freshest fish and chips. A local surf bar is the perfect place to enjoy cheap beer while enjoying a great view. However, there is no dearth of trendy pubs and bars in Gold Coast.

Shopping is a delightful indulgence in Gold Coast. The city boasts of a perfect mix of branded outlets, mid-range shopping centers and local markets which sells variety of stuff at cheap prices. To buy cheap souvenir and t-shirt go to Cavill Mall, outside Surfers Paradise and small farmer markets in Harbor Town. Some of the shopping items that the city is famous for are products made of sheepskin, aboriginal crafts, wool products and Australian opals.
