Discover Dalaman
Dalaman is a holiday destination located in the southwestern coast of Turkey. Famous for its contrasting landscapes of mountainous terrain and coastal plains, this town continues to attract holidaymakers from all over the globe, including India. Dalaman is known for its turquoise coast along the Mediterranean with sparkling turquoise waters framing the pristine white beaches. A visit to this amazing town guarantees good weather, spectacular cultural and historical monuments as well as some of the best beaches in the country. Dalaman offers one of the best landscapes in the country.
What to see and do
Relax and chill at one of Dalaman’s beach resorts where you can find long stretches of golden sand. Lounge on the beach with a good book and a glass of pina colada. The famous Iztuzu Beach is a sanctuary for sea turtles and a great place to bring your kids to educate them on sea turtle conservation. Once the sun sets, Dalaman transforms itself into a great place to socialise with good company, amazing food and a relaxed atmosphere with a spectacular setting. Do visit the numerous restaurants on the waterfront for some of the most scrumptious Turkish cuisines at reasonable prices.
The biggest attractions in Dalaman are the ones related to the country’s beautiful waterways in Oludeniz. Visitors are able to indulge in sea sports on the Mediterranean with jet skis and banana boats. Diving lessons are in demand in Dalaman mainly because the turquoise waters are so clear. The adventurous can explore deep caves on the beaches and view marine life underwater. It is also common for travellers to hire a “Blue Cruise” along the shores. For a truly incredible Turkish experience in Dalaman, head to one of the Turkish baths in the area for a massage and spend the entire day rejuvenating and relaxing in the hot springs.
Explore one of Turkey’s most impressive cultural attractions in the ancient town of Myra. This monument is a definite must-see for its centuries-old history. Retrace the tracks of the town’s famous resident Saint Nicholas, whose reputation for gift-giving inspired the legend of Santa Claus! Visit Myra’s biggest attraction, The Church of St Nicholas where you would be able to explore remains of frescoes and the tomb of St Nicholas himself, minus the bones. If you haven’t visited Petra in Jordan, consider exploring the hugely impressive tombs hewn out of the cliff face and a well-preseved amphitheatre, two attractions worth your time.
Dalaman is home to one of Turkey’s oddest attractions, a railway station that doesn’t go anywhere! Explore this 100-year-old railway station that was never in operation and was built as a result of pure accident.
Getting Around Within the City
It is convenient to explore this city on foot as many of the attractions are close by. Alternatively, if you’re feeling tired, rent a car if you are intending to explore Dalaman and its neighbouring cities. The shared local minibuses (dolmuses) are also a good mode of transportation because they are cheap and plentiful. However, they only cover specific routes and depart only when full. Taxis are also an option but they are expensive. Do try to discuss the fare before starting the journey.
