Discover Budapest

Budapest Ferenc Liszt international Airport sits 16km away from the city centre and serves as the leading gateway of the capital city of Hungary. Previously identified as Budapest Ferihegy International Airport, the airport was re-christened in 2011 after the renowned Hungarian composer Franz Liszt in commemoration of his 200th birthday; but many still associate the airport with its previous title. Starting its initial days of 1943 in humble beginnings, the airport withstood the test of world wars and unrests, undergoing massive overhauls and upgrades to its current stature today. Comprising two main passenger terminals, Budapest Airport covers a multitude of destinations across the world, and runs frequent connections with cities like London, Frankfurt, Tel Aviv and Moscow. Some of the more prominent carriers found to have included Budapest Airport as part of their extensive flight routes are British Airways, Emirates, Qatar Airways, Ryanair and Finnair. At the airport, passengers will be able to enjoy a myriad of amenities catering to their comfort and convenience such as extensive retail and dining options, travel agencies, dental services, banking facilities and currency exchange services.

How to get around Budapest

From Budapest Airport, passengers can get to the city centre most conveniently by hopping on board bus service 200E. The 200E bus will also take you past the Ferihegy train station, where you may choose to alight and get on the train instead. From Ferihegy station, getting downtown will take approximately 25 minutes. If not, your next best bet would be to get a taxi from the official airport ranks. Try not to be tempted by non-official operators promising you cheaper rates to get into the centre of Budapest, as they may not always end up being honest. Passengers travelling in larger groups may also consider opting for the airport shuttle which comes in the form of a mini-van commute. Tickets for the airport shuttle may be made within the arrival hall at the airport.

Within Budapest proper, public transportation is highly accessible and will get you just about anywhere you need to be within the city. Public modes of commute come in the form of metros, trams, buses and even boats; and night services are available should you happen to stay out late. Exploring the city on foot is also common with the tourists in Budapest. Do remember to pack some comfortable shoes, however, as certain parts of the city are still have cobbled streets.
