The Sharm El-Sheikh international airport is considered to be the second major airport in Egypt (after Cairo). The airport has approximately 10 million passenger traffic yearly. It is located in the heart of the resort area, near the Red Sea coast.
The airport is located 18 kilometres (11 miles) northeast of the city of Sharm El Sheikh and serves as a major recreation area of Egypt as it includes dozens of hotels along the seaside.
The Sharm El Sheikh airport has regular flights to Cairo, the capital of Egypt, different European cities and the Middle East. However the main air traffic consists of the season charter flights from Western and Eastern Europe, the Scandinavian and Baltic countries, Russia and CIS countries. The infrastructure of the airport has been constantly improved to increase the passenger services quality.
The Sharm El Sheikh airport possesses two passenger terminals: Terminal 2 and Terminal 1 (the new terminal). Terminal 1 was built in 2007. The passenger terminals are equipped with the parking area, public transport stations and taxi ranks. Various restaurants and cafes, currency exchange offices, telephones and post office, souvenir and essential commodities shops, cloakrooms and cars-for-rent offices are situated here.
How to Get Around
One can get to the airport by either bus, taxi or car. Taxi ranks are located next to the passenger Terminal 1. Taxis offer 24-hour services which can take you to the Sharm El Sheikh hotels, the residential neighbourhood of the town, and to the neighbouring resorts.
It's possible to order a taxi to pick you up at the airport. It's better to settle the price with the taxi-driver beforehand. As a rule, luggage is included into the transfer price.
You can also take the minibus. The bus stops are located next to the Sharm El Sheikh airport passenger Terminal 1. It takes 15 minutes to get to the centre of the city from the airport.
