An important city in Sweden, Stockholm is among the top 10 regions in Europe by GDP per capita and serves as home to some of Europe’s top ranking educational institutions. Stockholm is the most populous city in the Nordic region.

All the flights land at the Stockholm Arlanda Airport which is an international airport at a distance of 37 km north of Stockholm and nearly 40 km south-east of Uppsala. This is Sweden’s largest airport and the third largest in Nordic countries and serves Stockholm and Uppsala. The city experience a humid continental type of climate and receives over 1800 hours of sunshine per year, making it one of the sunniest cities in Northern Europe, receiving more sunshine than Paris, London and a few other major European cities located at a similar latitude. December and January are the coldest months with temperature between −3 to −1 °C (27 to 30 °F), and occasionally drop below −20 °C. The city is warmest during the months of July and August when temperature range between 20–25 °C, thus making is the best time to visit Stockholm. The climate in spring and autumn are generally cool to mild. In winter the city received around 6 hours of daylight while in summer it increases to almost 18 hours. Most of the festivals are held during the summer season and tourists should plan a trip to Stockholm during these months to enjoy the real culture of the people of Stockholm.

City Attractions

Vasa Museum is the most visited museum in Sweden and a visit to Fotografiska Museet is a must if you like contemporary photography. During the summer month tourists should not miss a trip under the bridges of Stockholm by taking a boat sightseeing tour. Djurgården is a perfect picnic spot and also houses a few museums and an amusement park.

Eating and Shopping

The city of Stockholm is a multi-ethnic hub and there are more than 1000 restaurants located in the city that serve wide range of cuisines and menu to suit every palate. Beside Swedish cuisines tourists can easily find restaurants serving Asian, Italian, Turkish, French, Greek, Scandinavian, Spanish, and Middle Eastern cuisine. A general Swedish menu includes a main dish, salad, bread and coffee. While most of the restaurants in the city are moderate to expensive, you can also find a few cheap Chinese restaurants. If you want to enjoy an authentic Swedish meal go to the Stockholm’s food halls where you will get fantastic traditional Swedish food known as husmanskost. The city is also famous for its nightlife.

The option of shopping in Stockholm is endless and the modern centrum Norrmalm is the largest shopping destination in Sweden. While there are big departmental stores and large shopping arcades, Drottninggatan is one of Sweden’s busiest, bustling streets for shopping. From designer clothes shops to beauty and cosmetics everything is available here. Sweden is known for its glasses, crafts, crystal items, Lingonberry Jam and wool mittens and tourists should not miss buying them on their trip to Stockholm.
