City Attractions

Oia, which is located on the northern tip of the main island, is major attractions and a popular site for various Bollywood movies that have been shot here. A trimmed town of whitewashed houses it is truly a vision in white. Firá is the coital city that if filled with white homes, blue domed churches and the view of the sea from here is truly magnificent. Ancient Théra is among the major attractions in Santorini and a popular historical site. Here tourists can sight the remains of the original Hellenistic layout along with temple ruins and other structures. Akrotiri is another small town was founded by Greek archeologist Spyridon Marinatos and there are a few historical monuments, a museum and second Pompeii, which is 1,600 years older than the Italian Pompeii, forming the major attraction here.

Kamari Beach is another famous attraction in Santorini. It is a black pebble beach and is filled with dining and shopping options. You can relax on the beach and enjoy crystalline waters of the Aegean Sea. When in Fira, you cannot miss the donkey ride. They are the most important part of the city’s tourism scene as they are used as rides to go up and down the 588 steps leading down to the old harbor of Fira. The island has a small flourishing wine industry and wine tours are very popular. Sailing is among the most enchanting experience one can enjoy in Santorini.

Santorini is famous for its Greek cuisine which can be found almost everywhere but a decent amount of restaurants that serve wide fare of international foods are also scattered all over the Island. A wide range of wines are available and they are inarguably the most important buy here. Lama Wine Store in Oia is the best place to buy authentic Greek and international wines. Books, postcards, magnets, guides, books, local crafts, dried caper buds; resort clothes too can be bought. Most of the shops are located in the city center and beaches.
