Serving as the capital of Sindh Province in Pakistan, Karachi is the largest and most populous metropolitan city of Pakistan and the 2nd-largest city in the world by population. The best time to visit Karachi is during the winter months of November till the end of March when the weather is coolest and most comfortable. The city experiences monsoon from July to September during which the humidity remains very high. The summer months from April to August are generally warmer and not the best time to plan a holiday in Karachi. Kara Film Festival, Karchi Literature festival, The All Pakistan Music Conference, Eid-ul-Fitr, Pakistan Day, Defense of Pakistan Day, Independence Day and Jinnah Day are the major festivals celebrated in Karachi.

City Attractions

In Karachi, begin your city tour by visiting the Mohatta Palace that was built by a Hindu Marwari businessman who vacated it after partition and it became the official residence of Fatima Jinnah, the sister of Md Jinnah. Today it is a museum and displays some of the important artifact from the historical times. The Mausoleum of Quaid-e-Azam, is a beautiful structure made of white marble and houses the tomb of the founder of Pakistan, Md Ali Jinnah. A major attraction here is the change of guards that take place every four hours. Clifton beach is a popular beach in Karachi on the shores of Arabian Sea and is also a popular picnic spot.

Masjid-e-Tooba is the largest sing dome mosque in Pakistan and has the capacity of housing 5000 people. Haleji Lake is a paradise for nature lovers and is the destination where tourists can sight migratory birds from Siberia. The lake is around 53 km from Karachi and more than 222 species of birds can be sighted here. Kemari, a small port in Karachi is admirable for its wondrous views of the Arabia Sea. You can take a boat from here to Manora Island which has a light house, church and an ancient Hindu temple. Empress market is the major shopping destination in the city and Aladdin Park is the largest theme park in the region. When in Karachi, do not miss visiting the Bagh Ibn-e-Qasim which is largest garden in Pakistan.

Eating and Shopping

The city is extremely famous for its biryani and there are end numbers of restaurant serving just biryani. Meat based dishes like nihari and haleem, dal (lentils) and barbecue dishes are also very popular. There is no dearth of fast food and variety of international cuisines such as Italian, Chinese, Japanese, Arab, Korean, South Indian, etc which too can be enjoyed here. If you are a food connoisseur then do not miss visiting the Port Grand Food and Entertainment Complex, which is a recreational area, built in Karachi and the largest food street of Asia. Being a coastal city, the city is also famous for its sea food delicacies. Sindhi fish biryani, pancake made with rice flour existing in the fishing communities in Baba Bhit Island should also be enjoyed. Boat Basin, Do Darya and Burns Road are popular food markets in Karachi. The city also has glamorous restaurants and fine dining place to enjoy a great meal.
